The So So Glos

note: adult language

The So So Glos are rock band that feature four brothers from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Their song “Throw Your Hands Up” showcases the band’s powerful, urgent, melodic sound and is currently in heavy rotation on some influential indie rock stations.  The group’s live shows earned them a coveted New Year’s Eve slot at The Mercury Lounge.  Tourism/Terrorism (Green Owl Records) was described by Robert Christgau as a record “in which a Brooklyn brother band live out their fantasy that Mick Jones took over the Clash and began writing Joe's songs.”

The Beets

are a Jackson Heights trio that The L Magazine named one of the 8 NYC bands that you need to hear in 2009.  The magazine lauded the band’s “effortless take on 60s garage-rock, less of the poppy, Beatles-aping variety that’s typically associated with the era, but more of a rhythmic, plodding variety, with guitars that seem every bit as percussive as the drums, and snotty, joint vocals that are almost chanted more than sung.”  The band kicks off a regional tour in February, which includes shows at Cake Shop and the Music Hall of Williamsburg.
