Silversun Pickups in many ways are the quintessential Silver Lake band, having “perfected their fuzzy sing-alongs for shoe-gazers, making pure indie rock as forceful as it [is] accessible.” LA Times. The band earlier this year released “Swoon” (Dangerbird Records), the follow-up to their hugely popular full length debut “Carnavas,” with the hits “Lazy Eye” and “Rusted Wheel.”

"Brooklyn’s pow wow! really smacks you in the face, Adam West Batman–style, with rootsy, spare rhythms and psychedelic twists. Pow!" Time Out NY. "[B]loggers prone to prematurely slap on an “over-hyped” label better brace themselves for what’s likely to escalate into full-blown, downright buzz. Deli Magazine.

Neon Indian is fronted by twenty-one year old, Mexican born, Texas raised Alan Palomo of VEGA. “A gauzy combination of Buggles-style 1980s pop, video game soundtracks, and cheeseball elevator music, Neon Indian songs like “Deadbeat Summer” . . . are effervescent, goofy, and achingly nostalgic. Kind of like MGMT on a ramen budget-- and with less face paint.” Pitchfork.com. The project – which includes a visual component created by artist Alicia Scardetta – gained steam earlier this year when their single “Terminally Chill” was the number one track on the music blog aggregator Elbo.ws. Praise from members of Grizzly Bear (who shared a bill with Mr. Palomo/VEGA this summer at the JellyNYC Pool Party) has further heightened the enthusiasm leading up to the release of the band’s debut album, Psychic Chasms -- out October 13th on Lefse.

The band is set to release a self-titled full-length this year. “’Leave Me Alone’ is its first single and wrangles guest vocals from Swedish pop vet Björn of Peter Bjorn & John and Chicago newcomer Angelina Lucero on a triumphant little electro-pop track that tickles hearts and synths and hearts like Passion Pit, trades and harmonizes vocals like Ra Ra Riot or those guys behind ‘Young Folks.’” Stereogum.com http://www.myspace.com/prettygooddancemoves

Langhorne Slim and his band are at the forefront of an emerging sound that "offers a sardonic, modern take on traditional folk, country and blues." (S. Mason). The Chambersburg, Pennsylvania based Shackeltons are a high energy rock and roll band led by literate, passionate frontman Mark Redding. The band was named a “Breaking New Artist” by Rolling Stone Magazine and “Best New Artist” by SPIN. Their self-titled debut (Loveless Records) received four stars in SPIN. “Scruffy, emotional indie boys you can actually believe in . . . . Palpable desperation is one of rock -n- rolls most valuable commodities, because it's impossible to fake. What makes bands like Pixies, Fugazi, and Les Savy Fav so exciting- and what makes the Shackeltons, from Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, similarly thrilling - is a breathlessness, a creeping sense that crouched behind the towering melodies and heard-‘em before razor guitars (think Television, in addition to the aforementioned bands), there's complete breakdown. A half-dozen times on their debut, the Shackeltons sound completely convincing, and that's about six more times than most bands ever manage.”
In April 2009, Eulogies released its debut full-length album Here Anonymous (Dangerbird Records). Written during a Fall 2007 U.S. tour with Film School, the songs on Here Anonymous are deceivingly simple. Riding warm, well-worn instrumental tones and Pete Walker's patient, understated vocals, they build a consistent mood over the album's 12 songs. “The perfect snowy day album.” theowlmag.com
THE ONE AM RADIO began as a quiet solo-project in a New England bedroom. But, like America, it moved west, grew in numbers, got louder, and now teeters between superpowerdom and total collapse. Singer/composer/beatmaker Hrishikesh Hirway’s songs feature Pizzicato strings and giant, echoing beats alongside his homemade recordings and ghostly vocals. “Sounding something remotely like the Postal Service meets Elliott Smith, the music is stunningly beautiful...” canyouseethesunset.com

Rosebuds are an indie rock/folk band from Raleigh, North Carolina. The husband/wife team of Ivan Howard and Kelly Crisps recently released its fourth album, “Life Like” (Merge Records), which continues in their tradition of writing jangly, hook-filled pop songs with offbeat lyrics. “The Rosebuds have long threatened to be the best, and smartest, pure pop band going and with Life Like they take a big step towards becoming exactly that.” Pop Matters. http://www.myspace.com/therosebuds
Kiss Kiss is an orchestral rock band. Their frenetic sound and live show is driven by the unique combination of electric violin, emo-influenced wailing vocals and soaring guitars and keyboards. Twilightvision.com (Episode 6). "Incredibly well-orchestrated... On the same level as Muse but the lyrics are more personal and dark.... The music borders on chaotic, but we are reminded beautifully time and time again that they are in control, and all you need to do is keep your hands inside and enjoy the ride." is an LA-based rock ‘n’ roll band whose debut album “And Now…Le Switch” was released last summer on Autumn Tone Records (the label of influential indie blog Aquarium Drunkard). “Le Switch has got a good thing going for sure. Falling somewhere between the dark Will Sheff stylized Americana of Okkervil River and the twang-pop sensibilities of Rhett Miller and his Old 97’s. . . It is loose and bouncy. It is the edge of rock-n-soul music that is carried by horns, raucous pianos, organs, strings, etc… as well as the whiskey-soaked vocals of singer Aaron Kyle.” CanYouSeeTheSunset.com.
This Anglo-Swedish band -- now based in Brooklyn -- was invited by Noel Gallagher to open for Oasis on dates on their UK tour. The pairing makes perfect sense. "Their mellow, harmony-filled rock nods to Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, but has a pop-nous that makes song like "Lucy Rider" and "Hard Breaks" instantly accessible. Following the trend for revisiting unfashionable classic-rock forms, Alberta Cross pull off Fleet Foxes' trick of simultaneously sounding like lost treasure and something fresh and new." Yorkshire Evening Post. "The best new band we've seen live this week." NME

Chairlift’s first album “Does You Inspire You” (Kanine/Columbia) features Caroline Polachek’s beautiful, dreamy vocals and the band’s eighties inspired, electronic grooves. The Brooklyn Trio has recently achieved fame for “Bruises” – the theme song of the Apple nano-chromactic ad campaign (“I tried to do handstands for you. . . . .”).

When The Parson Red Heads debut full length “King Giraffe” was released last year, they had already earned themselves a solid reputation in their home of Los Angeles that was backed up by successful Monday night residencies at Silver Lake Lounge and The Echo - but since its release, their presence has extended past LA’s city limits. The 60’s loving quintet has been reviewed and featured in numerous publications and has had steady play on college radio (KG stayed in the CMJ top 200 for 9 weeks). They further solidified their reign over LA with a Monday night residency at Spaceland this January, and a performance on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. They recently released a six song EP called Owl & Timber that highlights both theirsubtle and sweet acoustic tendencies as well as their consistent need for psyched out jams.

Nada Surf formed in the early 90s and in 1996 released their major label debut High/Low (featuring the hit "Popular") making them one of few bands to have been leaders during the "alternative/college radio" heyday and the indie rock era. The band gets better with age. Earlier this year, Nada Surf released its fifth studio album “Lucky” (Barsuk). “Possessed of hazily catchy and irresistible choruses, the end result is an endearingly affectionate blend of radio-friendly AOR and homely indie-rock touches anchoring their grand pop to something human.” MOJO. PHONOGRAPH has carved out a niche for itself that falls somewhere between indie-rock, experimental electronica and alt-country, while still staying true to the sounds of stripped-down Americana.
